Villas
Malgedara is a spectacular villa, fully enclosed for privacy, with 1 acre of lush tropical surroundings for you to experience nature and beauty up close and so close to Galle. One side of the garden overlooks a paddy field vista with grazing bullocks and the odd monkey swinging across the swaying coconut palms. The villa itself is furnished to the highest standards while retaining its colonial heritage. There are 4-poster teak beds in all rooms, air-con and fans and hot and cold water.
Sleeping
There are 2 bedrooms inside the main part of the house and 2 guest rooms behind, connected by a small covered courtyard. All bedrooms have large 4-poster teak beds, mosquito nets and lovely Indian cotton bedding. In addition to air-cons and fans for your comfort and wooden shutters that can be opened for fresh air and for the beautiful view of tropical flowers and trees, our Housekeeper will turn down the beds each evening and close the shutters at dusk to ensure a comfortable night's sleep. Master bedrooms 1 and 2 include large king-size beds with lovely views to the side of the garden. Guest room 1 has its own private courtyard and looks out to the front of the garden while guest room 2, a larger triple room with double sinked ensuite, leads to the back garden area. This room is ideal for mum, dad and children with the privacy of a separate entrance and bathroom. The views from all rooms are stunning, the bedding is pristine clean and the mattresses are comfortable to ensure excellent sleep.
The huge bathrooms are clean and modern for your comfort. All showers include hot water and towels are provided. Master 1 bathroom looks out to the garden and what better way to start the day than to shower with birds singing and palms swaying outside your shutters. Master 2 bathroom is large enough to dance around. All bathroom fittings are sparkling clean. Guest 1 bathroom can be found just opposite the bedroom. This bathroom is the largest and can accommodate the whole family. Guest 2 bathroom is ensuite to the triple family room and large enough to fit all the kids in your party for one big splash about. We have added a convenient double sink and large shower area complete with indoor garden. This is the kind of bathroom you would find in a spa resort. All bathrooms will be cleaned daily by our housekeeper so no need to worry about housework.
Dining
There are two veranda seating areas, one being a huge 15 metre long area at the front of the house, complete with dining for 10 and lazy chairs and sun loungers. The kitchen is large and fully equipped for all your needs with a separate laundry area & washing machine.
We doubt that you will want to venture into the kitchen during this holiday and so we provide a menu of items which our cook can rustle up at minimum charge. Most of our clients say that our cook surpasses any food they taste outside.
Entertainment
All your entertainment needs are taken care of in the small sitting room with TV, DVD and stereo system.
However, I am sure that most of your time will be spent walking around the garden, resting by the pool or reading in the comfy loungers on the veranda. The garden is beautiful and will keep all you horticulturists fascinated for hours.
Outdoors
The villa is located near to Koggala Lake, a beautiful area abundant with birds and perfect for canoe rides around the different islands, the most popular being Bird Island. The village of Kathaluwa is a lovely, friendly village approximately 20 minutes drive (10 km) from the famous 300-year old UNESCO World heritage site of Galle Fort in Galle. A number of well-known beaches can be found between Koggala and Galle Fort: Koggala beach (3km), Talpe beach (4km), and of course the better known Unawatuna beach (6km). The great location of the villa makes it handy to stroll to the lake, nip to the beach in a tuk-tuk or go a bit further to Galle Fort. When taking longer trips to see elephants or visit tea estates, we can help with organising your transport and guide. Between Koggala and Galle town you can find a range of restaurants in locations by the beach or along country roads.

Congratulations on a lovely property....
O. Ball, London
29/3/2009
Congratulations on a lovely property, it was a perfect haven for us. Even the monkeys gave us so much joy, especially the kids as we followed them around the garden. Gita was a pleasure to meet, always ready to help with kids and all. She helped as did Roshan, to make our stay a memorable one. You have some very good staff their. The Gardener even though quite shy was so nice to us all. The local people were so friendly, welcoming us wherever we went, somewhat like in India, when we lived their. Even today our little one, Arjuna is still calling out Roshan name.

We had a fantastic time...
Brewers, UK
22/3/2009
We all had such a fantastic time at Malgedara. The photos of the villa don't do it justice. It was such a lovely place and the pool was great and absolutely perfect for my 3 year old, who spent at least 3 hours a day in the water. The monkeys also caused amusement each day as they scampered across the roof.
We also want to thank Geeta and Goshan(not sure of the spelling). The food she prepared was fabulous and she also recommended a great restaurant in Unawatuna which was delicious too. She was very accommodating to us all, so please pass on our thanks again.
Also for reference Uda Walawe was a brilliant reserve and we saw loads of Elephants and also lots of birds, Lizards, Eagles. It is a good 3 - 4 hours to get there depending on the traffic but it was great to see Elephants in the wild.Thank again we all truly had a fantastic time.

Malgedara has to be one of the most restful places in earth!
J. Dennison, UK
24/12/2008
We had a wonderful holiday staying at Malgadera, the house was comfortable, the garden beautiful and the pool a delight. The immediate area was very interesting, we went to the local temple and to the school and walked around feeling welcomed by the villagers. There are lovely beaches within easy reach of the house and Galle is only a short tuk tuk ride away. Probably best of all was the treat of having Gheeta cook for us every day; we'd imagined ourselves asking her to do a meal now and then, but quickly realised that her cooking was wildly superior to anything we could produce and gave in to wonderful meals on the terrace, surrounded by colourful birds, monkeys, lizards and friendly frogs. Malgadera has to be one of the most restful places on earth.
Recommended for: Everyone! |
